Granit Xhaka returns, Kieran Tierney repeats trick: Three things spotted in Arsenal training

Arsenal face one of their toughest assignments of the Premier League season this weekend as they face Liverpool at Anfield.

The Gunners travel to Merseyside on Saturday afternoon aiming to continue their recent good form in the Premier League and continue their unbeaten run.

They even have the opportunity to jump above their hosts with a victory against Jurgen Klopp’s men. Ahead of the game, though, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been putting his players through their preparations at London Colney.

With that being said, football.london takes a look at the things that you may have missed from the Gunners’ latest training session.

Xhaka returns to training

Having suffered a knee injury in the North London Derby victory against Tottenham Hotspur, midfielder Granit Xhaka has been missing for the last six Premier League games.

His absence has not been felt all too much with the Gunners having gone undefeated during the games in which the Swiss has been on the sidelines.

Nevertheless, his return has been a big boost and that could well be closer than expected with Xhaka having been spotted getting involved in training. It is the first time that he has been photographed getting involved and whilst the extent of his excursions is somewhat unclear, it is certainly a positive to see him back.

Tierney repeats Arsenal trick

Since arriving at the Emirates Stadium, Kieran Tierney has developed a reputation of training in just shorts and a t-shirt. He was back at it again ahead of the clash with Liverpool.

With everybody else donning their tracksuit bottoms, snoods and training jumpers, the Scottish left-back was still back in his t-shirts and shorts.

Whether that is an attempt to catch the eye of Arteta as he aims to earn his place back from Nuno Tavares remains to be seen and it will be interesting to note whether he continues as the colder months swoop in.

Ramsdale sets sights

Coming up against a Liverpool side who are capable of plundering the goals, current Arsenal number one Aaron Ramsdale could be key.

His distribution has been praised since being signed in the summer and with Liverpool being famed for their relentless pressing, that is a skill that could come in useful once again.

Ramsdale was pictured practicing his kicking in training and supporters will hope that he has set his sights well enough to take advantage of the Reds’ press at Anfield on Saturday.
