Granit Xhaka moment vs West Ham highlights why Mikel Arteta is pushing for £25m Arsenal bargain

Arsenal were excellent in their 2-0 win against West Ham on Wednesday evening, which saw the club climb into the top four, with the team's speed on the ball being a major reason for the victory.

Mikel Arteta’s side was quick to release the ball and showed bundles of energy to win the possession back. It was the perfect tactics that coincided with a young team that was not short of confidence or fitness.

The midfield played a big part in the energy that was seen, but Granit Xhaka did at times take longer on the ball than what was needed, which reminded fans that a player who is more decisive in possession will be able to take the Gunners to the next level.

It is no surprise that Arsenal have been heavily linked with Renato Sanches, who is a player well known for his rapid acceleration and excellent ball retention.

The club’s interest in the midfielder was confirmed by the player himself, as he hinted at their interest during an interview with French outlet L'Equipe.

"Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I do not know," he said.

"I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling, but I can't tell now. But I know I'm ready. If an offer comes in, I'll see what's best for me."

Sanches is reportedly available for £25 million and at just 24-years-old, this would prove to be a bargain for the Gunners.

The only concern that remains, is his ability to stay injury-free. But if he does maintain his fitness, then Sanches and Thomas Partey would create a pivot that rival fans would certainly fear.

Arsenal’s victory over West Ham highlighted the direction they are going, in terms of a high press and a fast build-up when in possession of the ball.

While Xhaka certainly has the experience which benefits Arsenal in the midfield, along with playing a big part in the Gunners returning to the top four for the first time this deep into a season for over two years, the Swiss international can be elongated on the ball and disrupt the speed of the attack.

The acquisition of a player that fits the mould of being quick on the ball and not losing it in dangerous situations, would certainly elevate the level of Arteta’s young promising team.

Sanches suits Arteta’s system, and the match against West Ham further proved the need for a player with his abilities to continue the bright energy throughout the squad.
