Granit Xhaka deletes Arsenal captaincy image from Instagram profile as under-fire midfielder stays silent over outburst

The Granit Xhaka saga continues to rumble on following the Arsenal midfielder's outburst on Sunday - and a change to his Instagram profile could only make matters worse.

The Swiss midfielder reacted furiously after Arsenal fans cheered when he was substituted in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

The 27-year-old goaded the fans by throwing up his arms and shouted "f*** off" as he walked off the pitch before disappearing down the tunnel.

Gunners boss Unai Emery has called on the midfielder, who was named captain at the start of the season, to apologise publicly but Xhaka has maintained his silence on the matter - until now.

After the Swiss FA pledged to support Xhaka, the former Borussia Monchengladbach man has opted to change his profile image - leaving Arsenal fans to speculate over what it means for his future.

Xhaka appears to have deleted his previous profile photo - an image of him wearing the captain's armband for Arsenal - and replaced it with one of him in a Switzerland jersey.

The change will do little to downplay the prospect of Xhaka being stripped of the captaincy. What is certain is that this problem appears to be far from resolved for the north London club.
