Granit Xhaka apologises to Arsenal fans for Burnley howler: ‘I feel just as frustrated as all of you’

Granit Xhaka has apologised for his role in Arsenal’s draw with Burnley on Saturday.

The midfielder was trying to play out from the back in the first half, but his pass from inside his own area was intercepted by Chris Wood.

The Burnley striker shunted the ball home using his hip and the goal cancelled out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s sixth-minute opener.

Arsenal pressed to get back in front after that but, despite a good shout for a penalty and Dani Ceballos hitting the post, they had to settle for a point.

And Xhaka wrote on Instagram: “I hold my hands up for their goal and I’m sorry for the mistake.

“That’s football and right now I feel just as frustrated as all of you. #Arsenal #GX34”

Mikel Arteta said afterwards he was not angry with Xhaka, explaining: “It is what it is.

“It’s the way we play. It’s the way I want to play and we just have to know the risk and the rules we have in certain areas and the type of balls that we have to play.”
