Grangemouth Sports Complex reopens after 'suspicious' fire

Grangemouth Sports Complex has reopened after a 'suspicious' fire earlier this week.

Emergency services, including three fire engines, rushed to the building on Abbots Road in the town shorty after 6:30pm on Monday December, 6.

Firefighters entered the building using breathing apparatus to extinguish flames within a toilet area.

Swimmers and gym goers were forced to flee the building as temperatures outside dropped to freezing.

Falkirk Community Trust had said that the venue would be closed while fire damage was assessed and cleaning took place.

However, they have since announced that the complex has reopened.

In a statement bosses said: "We are pleased to confirm that Grangemouth Sports Complex will be operating as normal from Wed 8th December onwards.

"The dry side male changing room and toilet area will not be in use.

"Changing and shower facilities will be available by the swimming pool, please bring swimwear if using showers located poolside."

A major investigation into the blaze has started with cops asking anyone who witnessed anything suspicious to get in touch.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7pm on Monday, 6 December, we were made aware of a fire at a premises in Abbots Road, Grangemouth.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact us on 101, quoting incident number 2833 of Monday, 6 December."
