Grangemouth residents 'ashamed and outraged' as fly-tippers leave homes 'looking like recycling centre'

Residents at a block of flats in Grangemouth say they're "outraged" and "ashamed" because litter louts have made their surroundings look like a recycling centre.

Pictures have emerged of numerous blags of rubbish, shopping trollies and mattresses dumped outside the building and blocking a fire exit on Glenbervie Road in the town.

Locals say the stench from the heap has left them unable to open a window for fresh air.

Franco Tivoli lives there, and told Falkirk Live : "I'm absolutely ashamed. Before when someone came to visit I was already ashamed of how the corridors look and the stairs.

"Now I don't even want anyone to see this building because it's an absolute eyesore.

"The smell is unbelievable and I can't even open my bedroom or living room windows as instead of fresh air I get all the bad smell from the rubbish.

"The only window I can open for fresh air in the house is the kitchen one on the other side."

Franco says he and his neighbours have reported the issue to Falkirk Council for the past two months and nothing has been done.

He claims Councillor David Balfour told him the building itself is "beyond repairable".

Franco added: "My friends and family wanted to come visit from Italy when the restrictions are lifted but I'm too embarrassed about that.

"Just imagine what they could think of the country.

"I wish to have a different house by then, however according to council I'm not eligible for any of their homes."

A Falkirk Council spokesperson said "An inspection of the area will be carried out today."
