Grange Gardens in Cardiff closed overnight because of anti-social behaviour

A Cardiff park was closed overnight because of anti-social behaviour.

Grange Gardens, in the Grangetown area of the city, was closed by police on Tuesday evening after reports of teenagers throwing fireworks and stones.

It is understood no one was injured, but that a car was damaged.

South Wales Police has said it would continue to monitor the situation and that the park would be closed on Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Grangetown councillor Ashley Lister said a group of teenagers were throwing fireworks and stones around the park on Tuesday night.

Mr Lister added that he had heard of one car being damaged with stones, but that no one had been injured to his knowledge.

"The difficulty is we do not know where they are getting the fireworks from," he continued. "Police are doing active patrols, but people need to be reporting when there are issues so that we know."

He said it had been agreed that police would have the authority to close the park for the evening between now and Bonfire Night if there were any further issues.

The councillor said police were actively patrolling the area, adding he believed patrols had been increased as part of 'Operation Bang'.

Antisocial behaviour - what is it?

South Wales Police said in a statement: " Following reports of anti-social behaviour at Grange Gardens Park, involving groups of young people, officers took the decision to close the park for the night.

"The situation will continue to be monitored and if appropriate similar action will be taken, in conjunction with the local authority.

"The park will be closed on October 31 and November 5."
