Grandparents: what do yours mean to you?

We all love our grandparents. Whether it’s volunteering to help out with the children or providing invaluable pithy bits of advice, we know we can always rely on grandma and grandpa. So to celebrate Grandparent’s Day in the UK this Sunday we’d like to see your photos and hear your stories of why you love your grandparents.

Are you a gran or grandad? How does it feel to be a grandparent and what does it mean to you? Perhaps you’re a grandchild and want to share a story or memory of your grandparents. Wherever you are in the world we’d love to hear from you. We’ll feature the best on the site.

Like ID1580042 do you live in a different country to your grandparents but still look forward to seeing them when you get the chance?

This is a picture of my grandparent's kitchen. They live in a one-bedroom apartment in Bacau, Moldavia (the poorest region in the country). I'm in fact half Romanian-half English, but I'm very proud of my heritage. My grandparents are extremely intelligent and were lucky to have been a pharmacist and teacher. I've heard they used to live in a nice bungalow but the communist party forced them out in the 1980s. They continue their humble lifestyle - cooking fresh food everyday and talking to the neighbours around them. Every year I visit them and look forward to the beautiful dishes they make!

Perhaps you have a photo, like CMWong, that captures the moment you last saw your gran and grandad.

This was the first vacation we took as a family! My parents took my sister and I to Hong Kong to meet my mum's side of the family. This pic is taken on our day trip to Macau.

This trip would also be the first and last time I would see my grandparents before the passed away several years later so I am grateful for that summer I got to know them and spend time with them.

Or maybe like Cristina Sandu you just want to share the life lessons your grandparents have taught you?

Grandparents that worked all their life in camp and in farm. They tough us how to appreciate life and true values as respect, love, honor, family, work.
