This book is about a boy called Jack and his Grandpa. Grandpa is losing his memory and can only remember his time during the second world war. Jack’s parent’s send grandpa to an old folks home called Twighlight Towers and Jack tries to help him escape because it’s not a nice place. Grandpa tells Jack to get some supplies to help him break out. Jack cycles on his trike to Raj’s newsagent to collect the list of things.
Then Jack waits for the next night for the great escape. He sneaks out of his house and pedalled to Twighlight Towers to help everyone escape. Jack held up the hatch to let them out. Everyone went back to their home except Jack and Grandpa who were going on an adventure. They hopped into the old Spitfire and took to the skies. Suddenly two jets started shooting at them so Grandpa made Jack jump out of the plane. Jack managed to land on the soft grass and when he looked up at the sky he saw the Queen and her two corgies, but no Grandpa.
Jack is my favourite character. He has a great relationship with his grandad and he tries hard to help him. My grandad has lots of stories too just like jack’s. I think the story is very believable and it is funny and quite sad too. David Walliams books are better than I expected and I might read some of his others now.
