Grandmother reportedly granted custody of Florida boy found abandoned in New York

ORLANDO, Fla. _ The Central Florida boy who was abandoned on a doorstep in Buffalo, N.Y., is now residing with his grandmother in Longwood, who was granted custody of the boy Friday in New York court, Channel 6-WKMG reported.

The 3-year-old was reunited with his grandparents last week, when they traveled to Buffalo after seeing a picture of him on social media and in news reports, authorities said. The boy was discovered Sept. 16 alone on a Buffalo woman's porch, sparking a search for his family.

Authorities said the child's parents, Nicole Merced Plaud, 24, and Miguel Anthony Valentin-Colon, 31, have been missing since Sept. 14, when they left Orlando with the child and a friend, Dhamyl Mirella Roman-Audiffred, 29, for a road trip to Buffalo.

About a mile from the woman's home where the boy was found, authorities discovered a burned vehicle in a secluded area behind a warehouse. In it were the remains of two people. Police said the car was identified as the same one the boy's parents rented from Orlando to travel to Buffalo.

Authorities are still working to identify the remains and locate two men who were captured on surveillance video running from the vehicle after it was set ablaze.

The footage, released by Buffalo police last week, shows the men leaving the scene with the child in tow. Authorities said the men do not match descriptions of any of the three missing people.
