A 64-year-old grandmother will be medically assessed after facing court in Brisbane charged with the attempted murder of her four-month-old grandson.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was silent and stared down during a brief hearing at the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.
The former teacher was charged after the incident at a house at The Gap in inner Brisbane, where police alleged she used a large knife to slash the baby across the face and neck on Tuesday morning.
The ABC has been told the mother and her baby were visiting from Sydney.
The baby is in hospital in a serious but stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery.
The case has been adjourned for a week after her lawyer requested the court allow her to complete medical assessments.
No application was made for bail.
