Grandmother charged over attack on baby in Brisbane home

Police outside a house at The Gap where a four-month-old boy suffered critical injuries.

Queensland police have charged a 64-year-old woman with the attempted murder of her four-month-old grandson in Brisbane's west on Tuesday morning.

Police said the baby was found with multiple facial injuries at a house at The Gap.

The baby boy was transported to the Lady Cilento Hospital.

Police said he remained in a serious condition and was undergoing surgery.

Inspector Daniel Bragg said the boy and his mother were visiting from interstate.

He said the baby's mother awoke to sounds of the boy's cries about 6:30am.

"The mother went into the child's room and found the child in his cot with a second member of the family standing nearby," he said.

The baby's grandmother is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
