A Wishaw grandmother shaved her head to raise over £2000 for the Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).
Margaret Purdie, a grandmother of seven, offered to brave the shave as part of the charity’s substantial partnership with Scotmid Co-operative, who have pledged to raise £350,000 in the coming year.
Margaret is the post office manager at Scotmid’s Newmains store.
Her parents were long-term supporters of CHAS and her mum sadly passed away not long before Margaret’s fundraising challenge, which made it all the more poignant for her.
So far, Margaret has raised over £2000, with donations still coming through. She is so grateful for the amazing support she has received from Scotmid staff and customers, as well as friends and family.
Kevin Campbell from Scotmid told Lanarkshire Live : “I am hugely proud of what Margaret has achieved in raising such a fantastic sum of money for our charity partner.
"I know this is a cause close to her heart, however, the bravery Margaret has shown is inspirational.
“She deserves a great amount of recognition for this and myself and the full Scotmid team want to once again say a huge well done and thank you to Margaret.”
Lara MacDonald from CHAS added: “This is a lovely gesture from Margaret and we thank her for her fundraising efforts.
"The money raised will help ensure that no child and family in our care will walk alone.”
CHAS’s partnership with Scotmid Co-operative launched in December 2020 and will run until the end of August 2022 with a target of raising £350,000 to support with the vital expansion and development of our outreach service, CHAS at Home.
