Grandma stabbed and left for dead by woman who knocked on her front door - her young grandson was at home with her

A woman stabbed a grandma during an unprovoked attack while she was caring for her young grandson.

The 55-year-old victim was home alone with her young grandson in Beresford Street, Moss Side, when the attacker knocked on the front door.

When she answered the door, she was violently assaulted and stabbed multiple times.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries to her upper body, arms and head.

She remains in hospital in a stable condition.

The grandson was assessed by paramedics at the scene and suffered no visible injuries.

Following the stabbing, the attacker stole a laptop and fled towards Claremont Road.

The horrific attack took place at around 4.15pm on Wednesday, November 13.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Officers said they are treating the attack as an attempted murder.

The offender is described as a black woman, aged in her 20s, with braided shoulder length hair.

At the time of the attack, she was wearing dark clothing with an overcoat reaching just below the waist, black trainers with white soles and she was carrying a dark green bag.

It is believed she has a distinctive walk, with her right foot facing outwards.

Detective Inspector Mark Astbury, of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “This was a brutal and unprovoked attack and we are currently treating it as a case of attempted murder.

“Undoubtedly this will cause concern among the local community and residents, but I want to stress that we are doing everything in our power to trace the woman responsible.

"This is a particularly unusual attack in that the victim was subjected to a violent assault within her own home and I must make it clear that we will not tolerate this kind of violence on our streets.

“The incident happened in the afternoon and as such I would expect that somebody may have seen something. Were you in the area at the time of the incident?

"Did you see anything that didn’t seem quite right? If so, please get in touch as a matter of urgency as even the smallest detail could prove absolutely vital whilst we continue our investigation.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 0161 856 4409, quoting incident number 2090 of 13/11/2019.

Details can also be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
