Granddaughter of 'one in a million' missing Scot pays tribute as body found

A Scot has paid tribute to her 'one in a million' missing grandfather as police confirm a body was found near a golf course.

We told how James Brannan was reported missing from the Corrour Road area of Aviemore in the Highlands on Tuesday, February 8.

Exactly two months later, on April 8, officers discovered the body of a man near Spey Valley Golf Course.

Police on Sunday said that, while formal identification is yet to take place, the 72-year-old's family had been informed.

The tragic revelation sparked a wave of tributes to James, known as Jazza, on social media.

Public posts were led by his bereft granddaughter, Bethanie.

She wrote on Facebook: "One in a million, or in his words different class.

"No words could describe how I feel about you Granda, I love you so much.

"Rest in peace."

Droves of loved ones joined Bethanie in paying tribute to James online, hailing him as a 'legend' who was 'loved by all'.

Theresa MacKay wrote: "I have fond memories of a lovely, gentle giant.

"RIP Jimmy."

Yvonne Gordon added: "So sad, legend of a man."

Nicole Siobhan commented: "So, so sad, such a great man.

"Fly high Jazza."

Jillian Scullion posted: "Such a lovely man loved by all in the village."

Highlands and Islands Police Division said the death is not believed to be suspicious.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A police spokesperson said: "Police in the Highlands can confirm that the body of a man has been found near Spey Valley Golf Course in Aviemore around 2.30pm on Friday, April, 8, 2022.

"Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of 72-year-old James Brannan reported missing on Tuesday, 8 February, has been made aware.

"The death is not believed to be suspicious.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
