Granddad left with broken jaw after vicious attack on walk home after night out in Blackwood

Police are investigating after a man sustained "serious injuries" in Blackwood in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Marcus Stone, 50, from Caerphilly , was walking through Blackwood's High Street on September 28 just before 2am when he was punched and kicked by an unknown man.

Mr Stone sustained a broken jaw, broken teeth, swelling and bruising.

According to his daughter, Jasmin Stone, aged 25, from Caerphilly, Mr Stone came home from hospital on Monday, but now needs surgery.

She said: "He needs surgery on his jaw to reconstruct it and he needs dental surgery and may have to pay out £800 for new teeth."

Miss Stone said her dad and his friends went to Blackwood Cinema and then to Preachers for a couple of drinks to celebrate gaining his motorbike licence.

She said: "When they left a group of about six guys started on them in High Street and then it later got heated, and one of them punched him in the back of his head."

The family said they couldn't get their head around how Mr Stone ended up in such a state and felt let down by the lack of CCTV in Blackwood.

According to them, the ordeal had caused a significant impact on his mental wellbeing and confidence.

Miss Stone added: "It's sad that his two grandchildren have to see him this way. He can't smile.

"The whole situation has had an impact on his confidence and he isn't the same.

"He's lost out on money from work, they have to apply for help towards keeping up with bills."
