Granddad died in house fire while son and wife were away on holiday

A grandfather died when the mobile home he lived in was engulfed in flames, an inquest heard.

Retired market gardener Francis Morgan, 74,  was at home alone on April 17 when the blaze on Prospect Farm in Bishopston occured.

The inquest opening heard his mobile home in Bishopston Road was so badly destroyed it had fallen in on itself.

Mr Morgan, who was a father and grandfather, was identified by the copper bangle he always wore on his wrist.

Neighbours at the time said his son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, who he shared the home with, were on a family break in Tenby when the fire took hold.

The hearing at Swansea Civic Centre was told a number of calls were made to the fire brigade, but Mr Morgan had died.

The preliminary cause of death was given as death associated by fire.

The hearing was adjourned for a full inquest on October 18.

A fund-raising page set up after the Morgan family were made homeless has so far raised more than £13,000.
