Grandad's social life ruined as thieves take his £2k electric bike

A Bulwell grandad says he is "gutted" after thieves stole his electric bike from his garage, admitting it has left him with a dwindling social life.

Mark Robertson, of Steadfold Close, says it would cost "five or six grand" to replace the Specialised Turbo Levo electric bike which was taken from his home on November 15.

"As soon as I saw it had gone I was gutted," the 57-year-old recalled.

"When people do things like that it just destroys your life."

Thieves were able to break into his garage at around 6pm and Mr Robertson believes it was a targeted attack due to the value of the item.

He had bought the bike for around £2,500 in 2017 as part of his early retirement plan, and said he relied on it as he struggles with arthritis in one of his knees.

"I got it as I couldn't keep up with the son-in-law whilst biking," he continued.

"I used to take it out once a week but since it was stolen it's taken away the socialising aspect of life. It wasn't just for cycling, it was a social thing."

Whilst he still hopes to find the bike, Mr Robertson also wants to raise awareness of the danger of thefts.

"I want to make people aware as at this time of year this type of thing goes up. In hindsight I wish I'd double locked my garage. People should think about putting extra locks on theirs."

In an appeal following the theft, PC Thomas Stenson, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “He has been left without a really important mode of transport, which he uses to get around the local area on a daily basis, and we are committed to doing everything we can to find both the bike and those responsible.

“The bike is described as a black Specialised Turbo Levo electric bike with blue lining and we are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident, has seen the bike or has any further information to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 613 of 15 November 2021.
