Grandad's gigantic electric bill 'worth it' for 'amazing' Christmas lights

A Grandad has said his gigantic weekly electricity bill is 'worth it' for his amazing Christmas lights display.

Henry Fendick, 72, has been decorating his Wavertree home since his kids were younger, and hasn't stopped.

The grandad, who lives on Waldgrave Road, changes his display every couple of years by adding in new creations he has made.

This years display, which has taken 11 days to install so far, features multiple Christmas wreaths, a giant snowman and wooden Christmas trees covered in lights. Even the summerhouse in the back garden has been decorated.

But Henry said the house "isn't finished yet" as more lights are yet to be installed.

He told The ECHO : "It started for my kids when they were little and then the grandkids came along. They all enjoy coming to see them.

"I change it every couple of years, or every year if I can. This year I added the wooden Christmas Tree covered in lights in the front."

Henry spoke of how 'loads' of people have already visited the house, some from as far away as Wales and Manchester.

He added: "Loads of people have been coming from everywhere and some have shared the pictures in Australia. It's amazing.

"I do it for the kids, people bring them along and take pictures in front of the snowman. They [people who visited] said it's amazing."

But the display does come at a cost, with Henry spending £120 per week to keep the lights on, however the 75-year-old said it's 'worth it'.

He said: "It's just once a year and just a Christmas thing, so the money doesn't matter. It's worth it when it for spreading some Christmas cheer.

"I'll keep doing it until I can't get up the ladder anymore. My son-in-law does a lot of the high ladder work."

The Waldgrove Road Christmas lights will be completed by Sunday, December 19 and will be illuminated until New Year's Day.
