Grandad 'could've been killed' as car smashes into house

A grandad "could've been killed" when a car drove through a garden and into his home

Police were called to Acorn Close in St Helens at around 5.30pm on November 1 to reports of a "loud bang." The daughter of the people who live there, a married couple in their 80s, claims that her parents "could've been killed" by the driver.

The daughter, who asked not to be named, said: "The driver was speeding and went straight through the fence and into the outside wall of the kitchen. The driver then sped off without even bothering to find out if anyone inside was hurt, it's a cowardly thing to do.

"My dad was in there at the time making some food and the impact has moved all his cupboards and smashed all his dishes. The impact was so strong that the washing machine was pushed out from under the worktops, my dad could've been killed."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that enquiries are ongoing after damage was caused to a fence and wall of a home in St Helens earlier this week.

"At around 5.25pm on Tuesday 1 November, a resident of a home in Acorn Close reported hearing a loud bang outside. Damage was found to a fence and front wall, believed to have been from a vehicle, which subsequently made off prior to police attendance.

"Officers have carried out enquiries locally but we would continue to ask for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any dashcam, CCTV or ring footage to contact @MerPolCC with reference 22000805703."
