Grandad caught dealing cannabis in East Kilbride street

An East Kilbride grandad was caught dealing cannabis in the street.

James McFadden, 46, was put under supervision for a year at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He will be electronically tagged for two months, meaning he’s confined to his home between 7pm and 7am each day.

McFadden, of Cypress Court, Greenhills, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis in Cedar Drive, Greenhills, on October 5 last year.

Wendy McAdam, prosecuting, said police officers stepped in when they spotted McFadden and another man “apparently involved in some kind of drugs transaction”.

She told the court: “McFadden was searched and although no drugs were found they recovered £335 in cash.

“He freely admitted that he had a quantity of cannabis in his house.

“Cannabis worth £580 was found during a search of his home and another £495 in cash was discovered in a wallet.”

The fiscal requested forfeiture of the money seized which was not opposed by McFadden.

Defence agent Andy Iles said his client, who has two grandchildren, has been smoking cannabis since he was 14.

The solicitor added: “What he makes from selling cannabis helps him to continue smoking it.”
