Grandad, 81, shaken after yobs target house in early morning attack

A grandad is shaken, after yobs smashed his window with bricks.

Malcolm, 81, from Rock Ferry was terrified and speechless when yobs targeted his house in the early hours of Thursday morning and smashed one of his front windows. His granddaughter said she believed the incident could have been a case of mistaken identity as the rest of the houses and vehicles on the street were left untouched.

Treena Gillies, 24, said her grandad was "shook up" by the incident. and said it was lucky that despite multiple bricks being thrown it only smashed the first pane of glass.

She told the ECHO: "He didn't hear it as he had taken his hearing aid out at night and he came down in the morning to find it shattered.

"I just assume it was a case of mistaken identity, or just some kids doing it randomly. It's worrying as he lives centrally on the road, not on the corner where it might become a target for anyone walking nearby.

"And the rest of the cars and houses on the road were untouched. We only know when it happened as both neighbours came out. On one side they thought he'd taken a fall.

"He's really shook up by it. He's not a quiet man but he's not said much at all today. He's just worried in case they come back. We've told him it was probably a case of mistaken identity but he's just scared what if they come back."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information following a report of criminal damage to a property in Rock Ferry.

"It was reported that between 10pm and 7am on Thursday 9 February, that a brick was thrown at the front window of a house on Rockville Street.

"Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone who captured any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to please get in touch."
