Secretive video gaming heavyweights Rockstar North have a huge office in Edinburgh close to Holyrood Palace, but the geniuses behind the successful Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series of games rarely let people see behind the scenes.
However, they've made an exception for Edinburgh tech charity Girls' Game Lab, who run workshops aimed at showing girls aged 8-12 how to make their own games in an afternoon using a series of free tools with assets provided.
The girls are taught by local volunteers who work in every corner of the games industry.
Caoimhe Roddy, one of the directors of Girls' Game Lab, told Edinburgh Live:
"We're really excited to be bringing our workshop to Rockstar games. We've partnered with a few big studios already, but this is the first one we've done in Scotland and we're so happy Rockstar are opening their doors to us!
"In the UK games industry, women only make up 28% of the workforce. We're hoping to close the gap by providing role models to school-aged girls and give them the confidence to explore their own creative and technical skills.
"We've noticed throughout our workshop that confidence is a huge issue among our attendees. With all of our previous workshops we've had fantastic feedback from parents claiming their daughters feel unstoppable.
"We're hoping to keep spreading our work around the rest of the UK and show girls what they're really capable of!"
