'Grand Theft Auto' BMW driver caught on dashcam moments before killing man

Footage has been released from the dashcam of a driver moments before he hit a man.

Jakedene Loveridge hit and killed Richard Ieuan Williams while driving dangerously last year. Appearing in court this week, Loveridge admitted causing the death of the much-loved dad and grandad by driving dangerously.

When sentencing him to six years in prison, the judge labelled Loveridge's driving as "utterly appalling" and said he had been "showing off". Loveridge, of Swell Close, West Huntspill, Highbridge, Somerset, was on his second trip to visit a woman he had met on a dating app and collected her and two men in his BMW on November 20, 2021.

The car drove from Rhyl over the Foryd Bridge in darkness as he sped up to 90mph in a 40mph zone while crossing double white lines in the middle of the road. As reported by North Wales Live, one witness told Mold Crown Court that the driving was "scary", adding: "It was as though he had a deathwish.”

One of the BMW’s occupants later told police: “It was as though (Loveridge) was in the computer game Grand Theft Auto."

Sgt Emlyn Hughes, senior investigating officer at the force's roads policing unit, said following the sentencing: "A family have been truly devastated by their loss of a much-loved father and our thoughts are very much with them. Although no prison sentence can ever bring Mr Williams back, I do hope that this brings them some closure."

Sgt Hughes added: “Jakedene Loveridge had no previous convictions but he is now in prison because of his reckless actions that night. There are no winners here, only life-changing consequences for all involved."

Prosecutor Brian Treadwell said the defendant had been travelling at 53mph to 55mph in a 30mph zone when he reached A548 Marine Road in Pensarn. Mr Williams, 63, of Pensarn, was crossing the road when the BMW hit him and catapulted him into a wall. He died at the scene.

After the crash, the court heard Loveridge didn't stop and drove off. He was later arrested by officers who found his vehicle nearby. The defendant said he had only been driving "a couple of miles" above the speed limit.
