Grand National racegoer suffers horror injury after being brutally attacked at Aintree

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left with a broken eye-socket before the Grand National race.

The incident occurred last Saturday at Aintree Racecourse around 5.10pm, five minutes before the race.

Merseyside Police said the incident occurred near the Lord Daresbury & Princess Royal Stand, on the racecourse side, near to the front rail.

A spokesman said CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing to locate the offender and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Detective Inspector Gary Stratton said: “Despite the good nature of the vast majority of racegoers it is disappointing to see that an incident such as this occurred with a man suffering a serious injury as a result.

“We are carrying out a number of enquiries and are particularly keen to speak to a man described as a white male with blonde hair, wearing a beige jumper and a checked shirt.

"We believe he may have vital information to assist our investigation and would ask him, or anyone who recognises the description, to please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting ref. 19100160830 or @CrimestoppersUK.
