Grand National final 40 runners and riders confirmed after three horses withdrawn: Who are the replacements?

The full list of runners and riders for the 2022 Grand National has been confirmed after some late changes. The final 40 which will go off at Aintree on Saturday afternoon had been confirmed after the final declaration on Thursday, but three horses have had to pull out of the race.

The runners were withdrawn shortly before the 1pm cut-off point on Friday, which allowed the first three reserves to make the final field. You can find everything you need to know about this year's big race here.

Phoenix Way, trained by Harry Fry, has been withdrawn after running a high temperature. He will be replaced by the first reserve Commodore, who has raced just once this season in a win at Cheltenham in December. Ridden by Charlie Deutsch, his trainer, Venetia Williams, won the National back in 2009 when 100-1 shot Mon Mome stunned punters with a shock victory.

Jonjo O'Neill's hopeful Easysland has also stepped aside after a bad scope, being replaced by School Boy Hours. Ridden by Sean Flanagan, the replacement horse has been in good form, winning the Paddy Power Chase on his penultimate start.

Lord du Mesnil was the third horse to drop out, this time on account of the ground. He is replaced by Romain de Senam, whose trainer David Pipe has also seen previous National success, winning in 2008 with Comply or Die.

Minella Times, ridden by Rachael Blackmore, is the favourite among the bookies to hold onto the crown this weekend. Blackmore became the first woman to win the Grand National last year and comes into this year's race fresh off the back of her Cheltenham Gold Cup win in March. She will ride Minella Times again at Aintree this year as she looks to defend her title. If successful, the nine-year-old racehorse will become only the third back-to-back winner of the National after the legendary Red Rum and Tiger Roll, who did the double in 2019. You can find the latest odds and bookies favourites here.
