Grand National 2026 LIVE!
The jewel in the crown of British horse racing is upon us as the Grand National takes centre stage again today at Aintree as a field of 34 take on 30 fences for £1million in prize money, in what promises to be a fantastic renewal of the race. Reigning champion Nick Rockett is out but 2024 winner I Am Maximus is back and looking to emulate the legendary Red Rum.
Willie Mullins’ I Am Maximus has been the bookies’ favourite all week, until Dan Skelton’s Panic Attack moved into favouritism this morning after attracting interest since the start of the meeting. Mullins has another fancied fancy in the form of Grangeclare West, who was third last year and is mounted by last year's winning jockey.
Away from the showpiece, which is at 4pm this afternoon, Aintree has six other races on the card, kicking off with the Maghull Novices' Chase at 12.45pm and concluding with the Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at 5pm. You can follow all the action LIVE with Standard Sport’s blog below.

Willie Mullins to ITV Racing
16:51 , Alex Young"It was a good call from JP [McManus]. I'd have gone down the Gold Cup route with him but he wanted to run him at Aintree.
"This horse is just a superstar. Nothing fazes him and does what he has to do - runs, jumps and wins Nationals.
"Paul executed it so well. This is the race we all aspire to when we get into racing. Just to have a runner is a tremendous sensation."

Jockey: Beau Morgan | Trainer: Ben Pauling | Weight: 9st 9lb | Odds: 40/1
36) Imperial Saint
Replaced 2025 winner Nick Rockett, but has little chance of replicating that success. A distinct outsider with limited expectations, having largely been campaigned over two-and-a-half miles.

37) Amirite
Has plenty of stamina and experience, but faces a tough challenge against stronger, better-fancied rivals.

'The Grand National is the main reason I got into the sport'
12:13 , Alex YoungOne interesting runner today is The Real Whacker, who impressed everyone at Cheltenham way back in 2023 by winning the Browns Advisory... but has not done a huge amount since.
A 66/1 play this afternoon, but jockey Gavin Sheehan is in a bullish mood.
“The Real Whacker definitely looks to fit the profile for the Grand National and I rode him in the King George and he is a good horse, a very good horse,” he told BetVictor.
“I’m assured he is in a great place so I am looking forward to riding him. He ticks the boxes.
“It has always been a dream of mine [to win the Grand National], it wouldn't bother me if the race was worth ten quid to be honest, I have never looked at prize money. I try to go for winners, the money comes afterwards.
“The Grand National is the main reason I got into the sport, it has always been a great spectacle. It is a dream, it is the most prestigious race, it’s worldwide, it is very exciting to have a ride in the race alone, if you’re not in then you can't win and it doesn't matter what price they are, hopefully they have a good chance and I am really looking forward to it.”
