Grand National 2023 tips: 5 horses who can take on the Irish at Aintree

Irish-trained horses have won the last four runnings of the Randox Grand National and Noble Yeats claimed a one-two-three for the visitors at Aintree 12 months ago.

With 34 of the 50 horses left in the £1 million race coming from Irish stables. less than half the field in the world famous horse race will be trained in Britain

Britain’s leading hope Corach Rambler is trained in Scotland by Lucinda Russell, who delivered only the second Grand National success for a stable north of the border with One For Arthur in 2017.

He will be one of two runners from Scotland while there are four trained in Wales, whose wait for another Grand National victory goes all the way back to 1905.

Here are five horses, and their latest William Hill odds, capable of halting Ireland's winning run.

Corach Rambler (Lucinda Russell) 13-2

Won the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival for the second time in March which puts him officially 10lb ‘well in’ in the Grand National. If he repeats the tactics from Cheltenham, and wins his battle to be fit for the race, jockey Derek Fox, who rode One For Arthur to victory six years ago, will be sitting quietly early, aiming to produce his challenge as late as possible.

Le Milos (Dan Skelton) 16-1

Changed stables at the end of last season and has won two out of three for new trainer Dan Skelton, including the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury in November, since when the Grand National has been his primary target. Was reportedly short of match fitness when beaten at Kelso in March.

Our Power (Sam Thomas) 20-1

The big hope of Wales has won both his starts this season. Significantly those wins at Ascot and Kempton showed his relatively small stable could ready a horse for a major Saturday prize. He hasn’t run since February but clearly is a horse that goes well off a break.

The Big Breakaway (Joe Tizzard) 25-1

There should be no stamina doubts about a horse beaten only a length and a quarter by The Two Amigos at the end of three miles six furlongs in the Welsh Grand National. Having had only 15 starts under rules he is one of the more lightly raced horses in the field.

Eva's Oskar (Tim Vaughan) 33-1

Tim Vaughan trained Le Milos last season and will hope Eva’s Oskar represents him as well as his former stable star. He has already had a spin over four miles when he finished fourth in the Eider Chase at Newcastle. Bids to become only the fifth grey winner of the race.
