Grand National 2023: Best each-way bets, tips and finishing places bookies pay out on

The Grand National is the showpiece event of the three day meeting at Aintree this week, with the prize for the racing calendar's most renowned steeplechase highly coveted among all involved with racing.

It is also one of the biggest days for betting all year, with many allocating one day a year to 'have a flutter' on the most recognisable horse race in Britain with its huge Norway spruce fences being negotiated by some of the most impressive horses in the world.

The appeal is such that up to 70,000 will gather on Merseyside for Grand National Day, which also sees six other races taking place around the famous course. These begin with the Mildmay Novices' Chase at 13:45, followed by the Village Hotels Handicap Hurdle at 14:25.

The Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle takes place at 15:00 before the JRL Group Liverpool Hurdle at 15:35 and the William Hill Handicap Chase at 16:15. An hour's wait will follow this before the main event takes place at 17:15 in front of the packed grandstands, with 40 horses aiming for glory.

Here are some of the best each-way bets for Grand National Saturday at Aintree:

Grand National Day best each-way bets

Saturday

Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle (15:00)

A race for horses aged 4+, this Novices' Hurdle takes place in the prime time spot of 3pm and is a tough one to call with no clear favourite..

However, with the big race coming later in the day and a quiet week so far, it could be a chance for Rachael Blackmore to taste an early win with Cool Survivor (14/1), who can overcome a tough ride at Cheltenham last month to return to the winning form shown earlier this season.

JRL Group Liverpool Hurdle (15:35)

A cool £140,325 is on offer for the winner of this race, with the grade one race being run over 13 hurdles. Each-way terms have been set at the top four places, with a high quality field including Marie's Rock, Sire Du Berlais and Flooring Porter it is set to be a high quality race.

However, there is scope for an in-form outsider to seal a memorable result and Dashel Drasher (8/1) could be good value having sealed four consecutive second placed finishes this season.

Radox Grand National (17:15)

The main event of the weekend, the Grand National is a handicap steeplechase, which sees horses provided with a predetermined weight in order to level the field beforehand. With 50 horses going, it could be anybody's race, as shown by a 50/1 outsider win from Noble Yeats, who is 8/1 for a defence.

However, there remain smart picks to be had back in the field, with Fury Road (40/1) having enjoyed a consistent season, placing highly before a disappointing sixth place at Cheltenham. However, that was in rainy conditions on St Patrick's Thursday and a return to form could occur to achieve a high placing in this year's Grand National.

Which finishing places will bookies pay out on?

In the Grand National, bookies typically pay out on up to five or even six places. However, with the other races, it depends on how many runners there are.

Fewer horses mean it is less likely more than three places will be paid out on. Before you place a bet, it should be clearly stated which places will count as an each-way winner.
