Grand National 2022 crowds return to Aintree racecourse for first time in three years

The Grand National Festival 2022 is officially back, with thousands of racegoers already descending on Aintree racecourse this morning.

The Grand National Festival kicks off today, April 7, and racegoers, runners and riders are looking ahead to a big weekend. This year is the first since 2019 that guests have been allowed to attend at full capacity.

Today marks NHS Day, a day to honour the efforts of staff during the coronavirus pandemic, and kicks off the whole event, which will run until April 9, when one horse will be crowned winner of the world's greatest steeplechase.
