Grand National 2020: Someone is going to Aintree

Song For Someone is set to head to the Randox Health Grand National Festival for the Betway Aintree Hurdle on Liverpool's Day next.

Song For Someone landed the rearranged Kingwell Hurdle at Kempton Park last Saturday, giving trainer Tom Symonds his biggest career success.

Having been runner-up to Thomas Darby in the Holloway's Handicap Hurdle at Ascot last month, the five-year-old went one better in the Grade Two contest.

And now his trainer is looking at the Grade One Aintree Hurdle on the opening day of the meeting in Liverpool on April 2 for his rising star.

Symonds said: "It was a great day and he's come out of the race absolutely fine.

"As I said in the post-race interview, I was worried turning in that we'd run him in the wrong race and should have gone to Fontwell for the National Spirit on Sunday, but he got us out of trouble.

"Two miles at Kempton wouldn't really be his thing, but it was nice to see him prove he can do that, even if he only won narrowly."

Song For Someone is not entered at next month's Cheltenham Festival, so the gelded son of Medicean will step up to Grade One level for the first time at Aintree Racecourse.

Symonds added: "He won't be going anywhere near Prestbury Park (Cheltenham) this year, even though I think two miles around there on soft ground would probably suit him quite well.

"I think we'll probably run over two and a half at Aintree and hope for some soft ground."

Symonds considers Song For Someone as a future chaser in the making, but that is for next season.

The Herefordshire trainer added: "We've always thought he was going to be a chaser and he has jumped fences well at home, but that doesn't always translate to the track, obviously."
