Grand National 2020: Lake View Lad will head straight to Aintree

Lake View Lad looks set to head straight to Aintree Racecourse for a second crack at the Randox Health Grand National on April 4.

The Nick Alexander-trained 10-year-old has had a sinus problem, so he has been eased off in his work recently.

He was due to head back to the Cheltenham Festival for the Ulitma Handicap Chase, in which he finished third last season.

Now Lake View Lad is unlikely to have that final prep run - but connections expect him to be fine to line-up again in the Aintree showpiece, in which he was pulled up four fences from home after being hampered last year.

Trainer Alexander said: “He’s fine, but he had a small sinus issue - he he’d have probably run in the Premier Chase at Kelso on Saturday if it hadn’t been for that, which is a bit annoying.

“He’s in at Cheltenham (in the Ultima Handicap Chase), but I think we’ll go straight to Aintree with him.”

The grey is owned by triple Grand National winner Trevor Hemmings and is a best-priced 66-1 with bet365 behind Betway's 11-2 favourite - the hat-trick-seeking Tiger Roll.

Alexander added: “It should clear up very quickly.

“He’s back in work, anyway. It was just a small hold-up.

“We might take him away for a gallop at some point. He ran a month ago at Kelso over hurdles, so I’m quite happy with that.”
