Grand National 2019: These are the horses science tips to win at Aintree

This year’s Grand National favourite Tiger Roll is bidding to become the first horse since the legendary Red Rum to secure back-to-back victories.

Bristol Live has looked at the characteristics of all the past winners of the race and found that on average the winning horse was nine years old, was carrying a handicap weight of 10st 7lbs and had odds of either 10/1 or 25/1.

They also tend not to be the favourite either. Only nine of the races held since the Second World War have been won by the favourite or joint favourite.

So which horse is most likely to win on Saturday (April 6)?

Going by these characteristics, there are 13 horses that are nine years old in the race:

1: Anibale Fly

3: Tiger Roll

8: Minella Rocco

9: Lake View Lad

11: Ballyoptic

15: Rock the Kasbah

19: A Toi Phil

26: Mall Dini

27: Step Back

32: Singlefarmpayment

35: Vintage Clouds

37: Livelovelaugh

38: Walk in the Mill

Only two horses will be carrying 10st 7lbs:

27: Step Back

28: Ultragold

And only seven have odds of either 10/1 or 25/1 at the time of writing:

1: Anibale Fly (10/1)

13: Rathvinden (10/1)

8: Minella Rocco (25/1)

14: One For Arthur (25/1)

23: Ramses De Teilee (25/1)

29: Up For Review (25/1)

36: Walk In The Mill (25/1)

No horse meets all three criteria, then.

But the data suggests the following four runners could be favoured, as they meet two criteria each:

1: Anibale Fly

27: Step Back

8: Minella Rocco (25 to 1)

38: Walk in the Mill (25 to 1)
