'Grand' home in the shadow of historic park goes on the market

A charming period property overlooking a historic Merseyside park has gone up for sale.

The four-bed, three-bath home is located on Prescot Road in St Helens and is known as 'Fernsholme'. In the Rightmove listing it's described as an "impressive, sympathetically maintained and presented living space".

It's also in the shadow of Taylors Park, which is one of St Helens' largest Victorian parks. It was established by Samuel Taylor in 1892 and opened to the public the following year.

The home is spread across four storeys and includes a huge cellar with heaps of potential.

There are two reception rooms on the ground floor, with the front one being used as a dining area with huge arched windows.

The living room is tastefully decorated, with moody colours complementing the period features and mid-century furniture while clashing beautifully with the modern light fixtures. The high ceilings and tall windows let in a lot of natural light, bringing balance to the dark colours.

The owners have also been daring with their choice of colour in the kitchen, with black tiled floors, dark walls and worktops making the wooden cabinets pop.

The first floor has two bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite while the other boasts a walk-in wardrobe. There's also a luxury, monochrome family bathroom with a huge walk-in shower, a standalone tub and 'Jack and Jill' style sinks.

The top floor comprises a further two bedrooms and a shower room.

The property is on the market with Belvoir incorporating JB&B Leach for offers in the region of £450,000. The listing said the house has "true versatility, spacious rooms and stunning features consistent with a home of this era".

The average price of properties on Prescot Road soared over the last year, rising by 23% compared to the previous 12 months to £210,000. However, the figure is 40% lower than the 2014 peak of £347,500.
