Grand Designs fans shocked as woman told to colour in window frames with a felt tip pen

Grand Designs: The Streets viewers were left completely baffled after one woman who was leading the build of her own home was told to colour in her windows with a felt pen. Gareth and Nicola were featured on the show as they designed and built their dream home in York. The pair had purchased a plot of land and decided to create their own home to try and avoid expensive house prices.

Clever Nicola designed their home with a pencil and paper and no architectural experience. One part of her home she envisioned was a feature window but viewers watched on as she hit a snag as it arrived and did not fit, writes The Examiner Live. Speaking to the camera, Kevin told the show that Nicola had put months into the planning of the window for the project, which was filmed in March last year.

Nicola was really not happy when the window arrived and the black frame had white bits on it. But she refused to send it back and then was left even angrier when the contractors tried to put the window in place and realised it was too small for the frame. Nicola fumed: "You're joking,They don't fit. It's a mile out!"

When she contacted the window company, she asked for someone to call her back 'as a matter of urgency' explaining how the situation is 'infuriating' and will hold up the rest of the project, adding: "I am absolutely furious."

A replacement will take three weeks to arrive, though the company does offer a solution to fix the white bits.

Nicola tells the camera: "They've sent me a pen". And the plan to colour in the white bits with felt pen left viewers horrified.

One fan tweeted: " #granddesigns Name and shame! Who made the windows?"

Another added: "That window supplier is an absolute disgrace. But, pay peanuts, get monkeys."

One said: "Colour in your windows joints with a felt tip pen to hide the sealant join. Ridiculous!"

While another commented: "They couldn’t have used a black sealant in the first place, really !!!"
