Dozens of firefighters are responding to a fire at a high-rise building above Grand Central terminal - with smoke causing the station to be evacuated.
The fire appears to have broken out in the Graybar building portion of the central Manhattan terminal this morning.
Fire department officials said the fire was extinguished by the building's sprinkler system, but the smoke could not be contained.
Three minor injuries have been reported.
At least one eyewitness reported that she saw smoke on the 24th floor of the Graybar building before she was evacuated.
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
According to the transit authority, train traffic has not been impacted by the fire or smoke at Grand Central.
Across town on the west side of the city, firefighters rushed to put out a track fire at Penn Station, underneath Madison Square Garden arena. At this time it does not appear the two events are related.
