Grand Canyon crash: One person dead and dozens injured after tourist bus overturns

One person has died and two others are in a critical condition after a tourist bus heading to the Grand Canyon overturned.

The bus "rolled and landed on its side" as it made its way to Grand Canyon West, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Forty-eight people were on board, including the driver, and one person died at the scene in Dolan Springs, Arizona.

Two others were critically injured and have been taken to nearby hospitals.

Forty other passengers have also been taken to local hospital for less severe and minor injuries.

The Sheriff's Office says it is investigating the crash near the national park .

In a brief statement they said: "The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a tour-bus accident that occurred on Friday at approximately 12:21pm.

"Multiple calls were received by the Mohave County Communication Center that a tour bus, headed to Grand Canyon West had rolled and landed on its side at approximately milepost 5 on Diamond Bar Rd.

"Identities of the deceased and injured are not being released at this time."

The bus is managed by a Las Vegas-based company, around a two and a half hour drive from the Grand Canyon.

In a tweet, the American Red Cross said it is "monitoring" the situation.
