A gran who was struggling to walk and breathe was shocked to find that she had a massive tumour inside her that weighed over two stone.
The 55-year-old woman, who has not been identified, from Jhunjhunu, India, had been suffering from distension and pain for the last three years.
But doctors discovered that she had a 2st 7lb tumour in her ovary that was making it difficult to move around and even breathe.
She first visited Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital five months ago but only underwent the four hour operation earlier this month on December 8.
The removal of the tumour involved a tricky operation due to its size with it measuring 23cm long.
Surgical oncologist Dr Prashant Sharma said: "It was very shocking for us. Usually, a tumour is two to eight centimetres big but this tumour in the ovary was so large it had started growing inside the stomach.
"The tumour grew as much as 23 cm in size."
The doctors said after the initial investigations, the woman was advised for surgery, but claimed she was not ready for it at the time.
But she finally arrived at the hospital for the surgery on December 8 after her condition deteriorated.
The doctor said the surgery was challenging as the tumour had stuck to other organs but they successfully removed it without much blood loss.
Dr Sharma continued: "Due to the size and weight of the tumour, there were several challenges during the surgery, though the biggest challenge was to prevent the tumour from rupturing.
"The operation was a success because of the skilled anaesthesiologist and nursing staff present in the team.
"The patient is now completely healthy and able to walk from the surgery day itself."
