GRAMMY award winner Diplo slated to box for Triller Fight Club

If you thought Triller Fight Club was going outside the box with Saturday’s event featuring Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren, then get ready for this one.

Multi-time GRAMMY award winner Diplo – real name Thomas Wesley Pentz – will be the latest name to venture from outside combat sports into the boxing ring under the Triller Fight Club banner.

He’s expected to make his professional boxing debut on the promotion’s June 5 fight card in Miami, according to a report from Rolling Stone on Friday.

“He came to us and said he really wants to fight,” said Triller majority owner Ryan Kavanaugh. “We have a good relationship with him and we said, ‘Why don’t you come to this event and play a little and then call out an opponent for the next event?’ Hopefully that opponent answers back. It was pretty much that simple.”

Diplo, who is 42 years old, has never competed in combat sports. He’s apparently been training boxing for several years, and with Triller Fight Club becoming increasingly accustomed to giving a fighting platform to people without a pro combat background, an opportunity came together.

It’s unknown who Diplo will face in his boxing debut. According to the report from Rolling Stone, he will call out his potential foe during Saturday’s Triller Fight Club pay-per-view from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Diplo is one of the notable musical acts set to perform at Triller Fight Club this weekend, alongside the likes of Justin Bieber, The Black Keys, Snoop Dogg and more.
