Grainne Gallanagh says you need trust in your relationship to go on a programme like Dancing With The Stars

Dancing With The Stars beauty Grainne Gallanagh has admitted you need to be secure in your romantic relationship to sign-up to such a big show.

But she said there are no trust issues between her and boyfriend Ryan Coleman – although being apart and living in different counties is taking its toll.

The former Miss Universe Ireland said: “Honestly, on a show like this you are spending so much time with someone.

“And it is such a bubble and you do have to be secure in your relationship to be able to do it.

“Otherwise, people might get insecure if they don’t trust each other and I don’t think it would work.

“My boyfriend is not jealous and couldn’t be, it wouldn’t work with everything I do. He trusts me and he is fine with it, thank God, because it would make everything so much more difficult otherwise.”

Grainne is making her relationship with Ryan work the best she can after six years together but she admitted it is not easy to get the balance right.

She added: “[Being away from each other] would put a strain on any relationship because it is almost a long distance.

“We FaceTime each other every night and we talk every day. It is what it is and we deal with it, a lot of other couples have to do it as well.”

The Donegal model joked Ryan managed to escape Valentine’s Day because they didn’t get to see each other.

She said: “He doesn’t have to buy me roses, he is buzzing he didn’t have to get me any Valentine’s Day presents.

“But I will expect some flowers and a box of chocolates the next time I see him so he is not getting away that easy.”

Any talk of the “DWTS curse” has been brushed aside because pro partner Kai Widdrington is in a relationship with fellow dancer Giulia Dotta.

Grainne said: “We are just good friends and Kai is obviously very happy with Giulia.

“We are both so secure in our relationships and when we are together you can see that we are just friends.”

Grainne was partnered with Pasquale La Rocca as part of switch- up week last Sunday and their routine failed to impress the judges and she was left on the bottom half of the table.

She added: “I am trying not to think of the score, I am focusing on performing the dance.

“It was disappointing to get a low score especially because I had done so well the week before. Switch-up week threw a spanner in the works for everyone because you are so used to the person you are dancing with.”
