Grainger bets big on digital push as rental homes firm plots expansion

Rental homes landlord Grainger will start rolling out new tech that allows Londoners to handle all aspects of moving by using their mobiles, in a bid to let thousands of flats.

Boss Helen Gordon said her firm, the UK’s largest listed residential landlord, has made a “significant” investment to launch its ‘Connect’ app. Prospective tenants will be able to do virtual tours of properties, book viewings and sign leases using their phones.

Gordon said: “We are seeing more and more renters coming into the market and this new technology will help them see we are a professional and innovative firm. We think this will help us attract more customers.”

Grainger wants to double its estate to 17000 rental homes over the next five years.

The expansion plan comes as more people, particularly in London where it is increasingly tough to get on the housing ladder, look to lease properties for longer.

FTSE 250 firm Grainger said rental income rose 3.4% in the 11 months to August, and occupancy stood at 97.5%.

In that time it won a contract to work with Transport for London to create 3000 homes above or near stations such as Arnos Grove and Cockfosters.
