Graeme Souness believes Trent Alexander-Arnold is better suited to being deployed at right-back for Liverpool.
Discussions have continued in recent weeks with Jurgen Klopp utilising Alexander-Arnold as an inverted full-back in recent games, stepping into midfield to form a double pivot with Fabinho.
But with Thiago Alcantara returning to first-team action as Liverpool's quest for a top-four finish intensifies, some have questioned whether Trent should return to his defensive position in a more traditional 4-3-3 shape.

Souness, who managed the Reds from 1991-1994, believes Trent is best suited in a back four and explained his reasoning via the Daily Mail.
Writing ahead of the 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest, he said: “I have seen the arguments about Trent Alexander-Arnold being deployed as a right-sided midfielder at Liverpool because of his perceived shortcomings in defence. I don’t agree with them.
“I think Trent is better coming onto the ball from the full-back position, rather than being in the congested midfield areas.
“Full-back has always been the easiest place to play because when you receive the ball, you are looking forward at 20 players with no threat from behind.”
However, the evidence to persist with the tweaked formation that sees Alexander-Arnold step forward is growing. The Scouser now has four assists in his last three Premier League games, and appears to be thriving in the new system.
