Graham Potter told to heed Thomas Tuchel transfer advice as Todd Boehly plots controversial move

Graham Potter has been warned against signing Cristiano Ronaldo despite Todd Boehly's strong interest in the former Manchester United star. The 37-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge on a number of occasions since the American billionaire took control of the club's transfer business.

According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes will offer his client to the Blues, but a move 'remains complicated'. The report confirms that former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was a primary' roadblock' in negotiations last summer, with the German refusing to hold serious discussions over signing the Portugal international.

It's said that Tuchel reached out to Ralf Rangnick to get a second opinion on the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, and he was quickly convinced that signing Ronaldo was not a good decision. Jacobs reported that the former Blues head coach also became very irritable whenever the topic of signing the striker was raised.

Now Ronaldo is a free agent after United confirmed he has left the club with immediate effect, Chelsea have been rumoured to be interested in bringing the veteran to west London. While a move may be tempting for Boehly, Teddy Sheringham has warned that signing the Portuguese star will not aid Potter's project and doing so will only send the 'wrong message'.

Speaking to BoyleSports Football Betting, the former Tottenham and England striker said: "I don't think Ronaldo is a good move for Graham Potter at all. Not so early in his Chelsea career to be dictated to who comes in.

"He obviously wants to have a full say on what happens at the club, and that would send out the wrong message straight away. Football surprises you every day, and you don't know what could happen next, so who knows?"

If Chelsea were to sign Ronaldo, then the striker would miss the Blues' first pair of games back after the World Cup. He has been heavily fined and handed a two-match ban by the Football Association for knocking a fan's mobile phone to the ground after United's 1-0 defeat to Everton back in April.

This means he would miss clashes against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest before being thrown into the deep end against Manchester City.
