Graham Potter's telling Premier League comment following Swansea City's loss to Nottingham Forest

Graham Potter admits he wants his Swansea City players to stick to his methods following the 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The Swans have not won on the road in the league since beating Reading 4-1 at the Madejski Stadium on New Year's Day but looked on course for victory in the East Midlands when Connor Roberts flicked home George Byers' volley 14 minutes from time.

But late headers from Daryl Murphy and Molla Wague earned Martin O'Neill's side victory in Nottingham.

It was Swansea's sixth consecutive Championship away defeat and their fifth from their last six outings in all competitions.

But Potter has urged his side to continue playing in the same manner and not revert to how they operated in their final years in the Premier League.

When asked if he'd take seeing his side win ugly at present, Potter responded: "No because I think you have to have your way of playing.

"Swansea won ugly a bit and ended up going out of the Premier League.

"People talk to me about the Swansea Way a lot, what is it then? Winning ugly or are we going to try and play football how we want to and accept that when we're a little bit short we have to improve in those areas.

"For me we have to play how we want to play, master that and be better at that."

Swansea dominated for long periods at the City Ground but were unable to take full advantage of the chances they created for themselves.

And Swansea boss Potter admits there was little more his troops could have done against Forest.

"We did so much well in the game for 80-odd minutes. We got the goal, had opportunities and restricted them to not too much," added Potter.

"We did everything right apart from the last 10 minutes. We did not defend two actions in the box and you come away losing.

"It's clear what we have to do better. We did a lot of good things but it is hard to keep saying that when you don't get anything but that is the reality.

"I think anyone who watched the game would have said there were a lot of good things we did."

Swansea return to action against Brentford at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.
