Graham Potter on his 'intense talks' with Swansea City and the moment he decided to join Brighton

Graham Potter admits his mind was made up to join Brighton from Swansea City after speaking with the top brass at the Amex Stadium over their plans for the future.

The Seagulls made the bold call to sack Chris Hughton less than 24 hours after the end of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign.

And just a week after confirming their decision to part company with Hughton, the Premier League outfit unveiled Potter as their new boss.

It comes after Swansea offered the 44-year-old improved terms in a bid to keep him at the Liberty Stadium, as well as offering him assurances - within the parameters of their financial situation - over the summer transfer window.

But Potter opted to join the Seagulls after just one season with the Swans.

And the former Ostersund manager was quick to thank those he worked with at SA1 when he was unveiled as Brighton's new boss.

"I’d like to start by thanking everybody at Swansea City, not least the owners, chairman, the staff and the players. And especially the wonderful supporters," said Potter in a press conference.

"I had a fantastic year at Swansea. It's a great football club and I wish them all the success.

"That said I'm delighted to be here. I’ve had a couple of days speaking with Tony (Bloom), Paul (Barber) and Dan (Ashworth) and I was really sold on their vision for the club and how they spoke about taking things forward and I'm delighted to be here.

"They’re been on a wonderful journey since Tony’s taken over and especially into the third successive season in the Premier League. It’s my responsibility to build on that good work now."

And when asked about Brighton's first approach to speak with him, Potter said: "It was a couple of days ago now.

"We had a couple of days of intense talks. The project we had at Swansea was very challenging and we were still in the middle of that, but once I spoke with the guys here and about their vision, and what they wanted to achieve, I was very excited to be here."

Potter signed a four-year contract with Brighton.

His assistants Billy Reid and Bjorn Hamberg along with Kyle Macaulay have followed him in making the move from Swansea to the Amex Stadium.
