Graham Potter namechecks four players in expert view on new 'tough' Everton

Graham Potter highlighted four Everton players as he outlined the challenge of facing Sean Dyche’s new-look side.

The Chelsea boss wrote that he anticipated a tough fixture in his pre-match programme notes and ended up being proved right as Everton battled to a 2-2 draw. The visitors twice came from behind to snatch a point with Ellis Simms levelling the game in the final minute.

The dramatic conclusion ended a run of three consecutive wins for Chelsea while it continued Everton’s momentum as the club enters the international break after earning five points from their last three games.

Following the match, the ECHO asked Potter why he believed Everton are such a challenging prospect as the club battles to retain its Premier League status. His answer offered an expert’s insight into the changes made by Sean Dyche since his appointment at the end of January - following which Everton have taken more points than any of the eight other clubs in the survival fight.

Potter said: “I think they use their physicality well. [Amadou] Onana and [Abdoulaye] Doucoure are physical Premier League players. They get the ball forward. They defend deep. And they can also hit you with big space, with pace.

"[Demarai] Gray as a forward is always moving, so he is never in a conventional position. Since Sean has gone there the set piece quality has been fantastic so they use [James] Tarkowski well, they use the size of the team well, so they are a tough opponent to play.”
