Graham Potter in awe of the progress David Moyes has made with West Ham ahead of Brighton clash

Graham Potter has hailed David Moyes for the "amazing" job he has done at West Ham in taking the club into the Europa League last-16 and the top four of the Premier League.

Despite losing their last two league matches the Hammers are still fourth in the table, highlighting what a wonderful start to the season they have had.

Potter's Brighton and Hove Albion head to the London Stadium on Wednesday evening and the Seagulls manager was full of praise for his opposite number ahead of the clash.

"It's always tough playing against West Ham. David Moyes has done fantastic, to be competing well in Europe and still be in the top four of the Premier League, it's amazing what they have done," Potter said.

Brighton started the season in fine form but that has dipped a little in recent weeks. However, Potter's team are sitting comfortably in ninth spot with 18 points to their name and have a superb recent record against West Ham.

The Hammers have not beaten Brighton since 2012 when a Ricardo Vaz Te hat-trick helped West Ham to a 6-0 win in the Championship.

Since then, the two sides have met eight times in the Premier League with five draws and three wins for Brighton. Last season both matches ended with the points being shared and Potter is using the Seagull's fine record against West Ham as motivation for his team on Wednesday.

"We've had some good performances in London and we have to go and play well," Potter added. "Our challenge is to maintain that performance level from the Leeds game and if we do that we'll give ourselves a chance."

Ahead of the match, Potter said he was wary of the Hammers set-piece threat but is backing his players to cope with the dead-ball situations.

"We have good players who are strong in defending the box situations," he said. "But clearly, West Ham have big players, and they are very good at set-pieces. They are very good at that area and are as good as anyone in the league.

"Regardless of that, they scored against Liverpool like that, and they have big players as well, so size is not necessarily everything, but it certainly helps."
