Graham planning to end playing career at Partick Thistle...just not anytime soon

Brian Graham has revealed he plans to finish his playing career at Partick Thistle. Just not anytime soon.

The striker, 35, penned a new two-year deal at Firhill last month and is determined to remain a key contributor well past the 2025 expiry date.

Graham - the club's top goalscorer for the past three seasons - had been the subject of a transfer bid from an unnamed Scottish club but Thistle move quickly to tie down his services after booting out the offer.

Needless to say, Graham wasn't interested in leaving regardless, even if it may well have come with greater financial rewards.

"I'd probably have been better off financially if I had left the club but that's not my key motive," said the former Ross County and Hibs frontman. "I didn't want to leave and tarnish my reputation at this fantastic football club.

"Realistically, I want to see myself finishing my career here and I don't imagine I am going to hang up my boots after my two years are over.

"I've got a plan to continue playing, and when you see the preseason results and how fit I am at this age...the young boys can't really keep up with me.

"See once you get over 30, some players see it as a way of winding down. It felt to me it was as if you get over 30, you make sure you are looking after yourself. You maybe get away with it at 20 or 21. But my diet is really good, my body fat is seven percent at 35.

"My fitness levels are through the roof I just need to make sure I just keep myself fit and stay injury free."

Team-mate David Mitchell previously outlined his ambition to keep playing until he is 40, and Graham could join him.

"Goalies get away with that. They don't need to do all the running, they just jump about a goal," he joked.

"I want to play as long as possible and if I get to play to 40 then great."
