Graham Norton opens up on losing two dogs within months and says he scattered ashes in Ireland for special reason

Graham Norton revealed he scattered his dogs' ashes in Ireland as he opened up about dealing with the loss of his two beloved pets within months in lockdown.

The popular TV host announced the death of his labradoodle Bailey last summer, just a fortnight after revealing that his beloved rescue dog Madge had passed away at Christmas.

Looking back at the heart breaking time, the 58-year-old said: “It was horrible when they went, but they were ancient and it was amazing they lived as long as they did.

“They had good lives.

“Madge died at Christmas in 2019 and then Bailey died [in July 2020], so there was a lot of dog death in a very short space of time."

The Cork-born star said he scattered his pets' ashes at home in Ireland, in a place they always loved.

“They loved the house in [County Cork,] Ireland, so I scattered their ashes there under a tree in the garden, and I’ve nailed a little wooden B and M to the tree. It’s cute,” he told New! Magazine.

The UK-based star has been spending more time in his Irish home this summer, as filming on the TV adaption of his best-selling novel Holding has been underway on location in West Cork.

But despite starting his own career on an acting trail, the popular presenter and author said he has no desire of returning to it any time soon.

He said: “No. I realise when I watch the rushes [the rough footage from each day’s filming] of Holding and I see how many takes they do – I just think, “Thank God I’m not doing that.”

“Because even if it’s something you want to do, even if it’s something you really believe in, you might have spent the whole day pouring a cup of tea and putting it down.

“I mean, it’s just… no, it’s not something I want to do. I want to watch TV drama – I don’t need to be in it. I’m very happy doing my chat show.”
