Graham Glasgow earns hefty performance-based pay bonus

Lions center Graham Glasgow is one of the NFL’s big winners in earning a merit-based pay increase. Glasgow will collect $306,379 in incentive from the money pool, created by the NFL and NFLPA to reward players who rack up high playing time relative to their salary level.

The interior lineman’s bonus ranked 17th in the NFL.

From the NFL’s communique on the process,

Under the Performance-Based Pay program, a fund is created and used as a supplemental form of player compensation based on a comparison of playing time to salary. Players become eligible to receive a bonus distribution in any regular season in which they play at least one official down.  In general, players with higher playtime percentages and lower salaries benefit most from the pools.

More than half of the players listed in the top 25 recipients are offensive linemen on their rookie contracts, which also fits Glasgow.
